Design 27 Stormy Weather

This is clearly one of the favorites in our archives. This is most likely due to the fact that on numerous occasions Olin Stephens stated that this was his favorite Sparkman & Stephens design.

Stormy Weather was tank tested at the Stevens Institute in a swimming pool, even before the official towing tank was open. She was an improvement the Dorade design. Built by Henry Nevins of City Island, New York, she was launched in 1934.

Here are the plans.

Tartan 27 Design 1617

One of the most beloved designs to come from the boards of Sparkman & Stephens, the Tartan 27 was in production from 1961 until 1980 with hundreds of boats (around 700) delivered to happy owners. The original price was around $10,000 and by the end of the production run the price had risen to near $25,000.

Here are some study plans.

These boats are still readily available on the used boat market. They are a truly classic design and make a great family boat.

And finally the hull lines.
