Lavranos Leisureliner 2 on display at the Cape Town Boat Show 2013

In the main hall there are no yachts on display really, just one very small one that's an unfinished product and the same one as displayed looking the same last year!

What is being promoted is the new version of an old favourite and with an upgrade by its designer Angelo Lavranos who tells me he will be trying the first LL 2 in Langebaan late December, after which he is sailing in the 2014 Cape to Rio yacht race.

CKD Boats cc will be introducing the new Deluxe Light Ply and Teak & Ash laminate flooring to Admiral Power Cats, the builders of the new Leisureliner 2.

Oars and Paddles in Cape Town

South African made and each one by hand.

Hi Roy

Here is a pic of some oars. I can make any size up to 6 metres.

They are made from American Poplar, which has the same weight as Clear Oregon Pine, plus
it comes in nice long lengths. We supply the waterproof PVA glue that is used.

Contact me for your order.

Cape to Rio Yacht Race 2014 time

I have just been to the HBYC to see whats on down there, lots of work still to be done on many boats I think.

Dudley Dix was there to manage customs and immigration on time, one of the officials was not!

Dudley on his Black Cat, which is a Didi 38 that he designed and built for himself. This will be his third Rio race in the same boat.

The race starts on Saturday 4th January.

Jorgens Cape Cutter 19 build

For a change this is not being built from one of our CNC cut boat kits. The licence to cut them was stopped when the design in GRP was bought out, so we now offer the popular Cape Henry 21 as a CNC okoume marine ply kit. I suppose we may be licenced to hand cut a Cape Cutter 19 bulkhead set but by hand?

The bulkhead kit and hand cut by Jorgen, thats a lot of work, looks well done.

The CC19 is a smaller version of the Cape Henry 21, which is 10% larger.

The frames set up and ready for the next stage.

All pictures supplied by Jorgen.

We have just packed the 316 stainless steel kit for this boat, which makes Sweden our thirty forth (34) export country now.

1275c Mini Cooper S for sale in Cape Town South Africa

Who wants a genuine Mini Cooper S 1275 single tank (old shape) with matching numbers and restored?

At this time I have not even seen the car but I do know the owner very well, we talked about the
car being my next project but a buyer needs to be found first.

The car is said to be an early model and about 1963/4, its a bare shell right now, so ready for its rebuild and a new owner.

This is not the actual car but shows what a Mini Cooper looks like.

http://www.blogspot.com/2008/07/austin-mini-cooper-genuine-parts-manual.html

I already have a genuine 1st edition ,September 1961 Cooper  parts manual on my books on cars, so re assembly should be faster and correct.

I heard on Sky TV that Jeff Randle Live was saying the market in wrist watches and classic cars was better than the stock market these days!

Pictures of a misty Hout Bay Western Cape Province South Africa

We dont get mist here often but when we do it sure adds to a photograph.

Click on the image to enlarge it.

Pictures taken by R McBride using a Canon G11 digital camera set on auto.
Note the Canon G11 and others have a common fault in that the automatic lens cover closes and scratches the glass lens.

This may be after some years, mine was first noted after about three years of use, the scratches are not an issue unless your looking towards the sun or a light source, then the camera is seriously faulted.

I would buy another though, any on offer out there?  G11 or G12 and a higher??

I have purchased an almost new Canon G1X, its a great camera but less compact than the G11 which is also better with macro pictures which I need for work quite often,

By Sunday the 12th of October the SE trades were gusting over 25 knots, this monday morning its well past that speed and for sure the mist is just a memory!
